On December 7th, Napa Climate Now is celebrating the contributions that each of you has made, by hosting a potluck gathering with food, drink and a contemplative lookback at all that has been accomplished in 2022. In keeping with our goals of climate stabilization and climate restoration, the theme of the potluck is “Cool Food Revolution”. As climate activists, I know we are up for the challenge!

What are “Cool Foods”, you may ask? It relates to a groundbreaking initiative from the World Resources Institute that helps food providers across the globe use environmental and behavioral science to serve healthy, sustainable meals that benefit both people and the planet. Even though this initiative was launched to primarily support food service companies, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, cities, and universities, it has also caught on as a concept for individuals. Cool Food is “delicious food that is better for the planet,” with a low carbon footprint.
We are encouraging that dishes be made with local, in-season ingredients, with a plant-rich emphasis, making them the star of whatever dish you provide. Vegan and vegetarian dishes are great, and if you want to bring a meat dish, consider local and organic sourcing. Bottom line, we want to emphasize foods that need less land, water and other natural resources to produce. We’re really looking forward to seeing the creative offerings! The more we can eat something with a lower carbon “foodprint”, the healthier we (and the planet) will be.
The concept of saving the world one meal at a time is one we should embrace. And by eating amazing and thoughtful food while spending an evening in good conversation and good company, greenhouse gas-slashing activist action never tasted so delicious!
