SUMMARY:Earth Day 50: What COVID-19 is Teaching Us About Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Join WCS and our speakers for the kick-off of our new webinar series on Wednesday\, April 22. We’ll come together virtually at 5pm Pacific. Learn more about this event and register here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\n>>This event is complimentary for all WCS members and limited to the first 100 attendees. Members look for the promo code in your WCS Members’ list email. Or email info@womencleantechsustainability.org to get your member promo code. Not a member\, but want to be? Find out how you can be a WCS member here. << \nAs Earth Day turns 50\, societies across the globe are responding to the acute danger of the novel coronavirus COVD-19. But what about the chronic condition of climate change? The resulting reduction in CO2 emissions from manufacturing and transportation has opened up a window to what a more sustainable world would look like if we took action to address climate change. When the danger of the current pandemic lifts\, will the world realize rallying to address climate change\, or will it return to business-as-usual? \nOur panel of experts will discuss how COVID-19 is impacting climate change and other social and economic systems the globe depends. Now more than ever\, there is a need to think bigger\, bolder. Billions of people making trillions of decisions got us to the situation we’re in today. Can people get us out of it\, too? \nWe’ll cover: \n\nWhat we can learn from COVID-19 response to better inform how we advocate for climate change\nHow to challenge the power of collective action for the climate crisis\nHow can we advance short-term tactics for resilience and mitigation\, but look at the larger context.\nHow to sustainability navigate the world of single-use protective equipment\n\nWe hope that this event will offer the space to reflect on your routine and nudge you to think bigger to take bolder climate action. \nWe’re also encouraging members and our WCS community to share photos and articles of how COVID-19 is impacting climate change. Tag your posts with #WCSEarthDay so we can share with each other. \nSpeakers include: \n\nChristian Roselund\, Editorial Director\, Rocky Mountain Institute who recently wrote the op/ed COVID-19 and Climate: Risk\, Mitigation\, and Resilience\nAlisson Paradise\, CEO and Founder\, My Green Lab\nSanchali Pal\, Founder and CEO\, Joro\,\n\nAgenda: \n5:00 Welcome\n5:05 Opening remarks\n5:10 Panel questions\n5:45: Q&A from audience using zoom chat\n5:55 Closing statement \nRefunds available up to 24 hours before the event. \nAll genders welcome \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Christian Roselund\, Editorial Director at Rocky Mountain Institute \nPrior to joining RMI\, Christian wrote about solar energy\, energy storage and the energy transition for a decade\, most recently leading the U.S. project of global solar trade publication pv magazine. SUMMARY:Heather Booth: Changing the World
DESCRIPTION:Nationally recognized organizer and activist -See her story….hear her speak – Learn how to change the world!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nThe afternoon begins with an opportunity to meet Napa’s activist organizations and their organizers\, followed by the documentary film. After the viewing\, Heather will take the stage to give sage advice\, answer questions and address some of the issues facing our own Napa community. \nFor those interested in continuing the conversation with Heather\, CIA Copia’s culinary team will be offering a “60’s” activist dinner. \nAbout the documentary: Renowned organizer and activist Heather Booth began her remarkable career at the height of the Civil Rights movement. Through her life and work\, this inspiring film explores many of the pivotal moments in progressive movements that altered our history over the last fifty years\, from her involvement with Fannie Lou Hamer and the Freedom Summer Project\, to her founding of the JANE Underground in 1964\, to her personal relationships with respected leaders such as Julian Bond and Senator Elizabeth Warren. Featuring interviews from close friends\, clients\, political colleagues and current Midwest Academy students\, HEATHER BOOTH: CHANGING THE WORLD explores Heather’s legacy in progressive politics and organizing. \nAt a time when many are wondering how to make their voices heard\, when civil and women’s rights are under attack\, Lilly Rivlin’s acclaimed documentary is an empowering look at how social change happens.

SUMMARY:The Butterfly Effect by Dance Brigade
DESCRIPTION:A new site-specific dance work on climate crisis \nJanuary 24 – February 9\, 2020:  Fri-Sat 8pm\, Sun 6pm (Napa Climate NOW! Member\, Linda Brown will be present on January 30th) \n(Please arrive ten minutes early\, as there is no late seating. You may also buy tickets over the phone by calling 415-826-4441. Leave a message if no one picks up.) \nDance Brigade is pleased to announce its latest evening-length dance work\, Butterfly Effect\, which takes on the climate crisis. Created and directed by Krissy Keefer\, the title is a nod to the idea that small actions can have far-reaching consequences. Featuring a live musical score by Bruce Ghent\, Butterfly Effect pays tribute to the devastatingly large number of activists that have been silenced\, often brutally\, because they have spoken truth to power. \nWith eight dancers and six drummers\, this large scale project will wind through the studios inside Dance Mission Theater\, the audience be immersed in three distinct worlds\, and met with dance\, percussion\, light\, video\, poetry\, and social commentary. (Please note that there is no late seating\, please arrive 10 minutes early.) \n“The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible.” – Toni Cade Bambara \n“Krissy Keefer\, Dance Brigade\, and Dance Mission have give the world many gifts; performance\, protests\, visions\, and talent.” – Culture Vulture \nTICKETS \n\nGeneral admission: $26 in advance ($30 at the door)\nReserved seating: $40\nWe have a very limited number of “low income” tickets available at $15. Please keep these available for those that need to them.\nAdvance ticket purchase is highly recommended as there are a very limited number of seats available for each performance.

SUMMARY:Napa Valley Resilience Workshop: Moving Through and Beyond Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Napa Valley Resilience Group and Lincoln Theater invite you to a FREE workshop for community-wide healing and resiliency-building. Recent events have taken a toll on us all in Napa County\, including wildfires\, the loss of treasured community members to gun violence\, suicide and tragic accidents\, and fears of immigrant family separations. \nJoin Napa Valley community leaders for a free workshop that will help us move through and beyond trauma and take an important step toward becoming a more resilient\, self-healing and inclusive Napa Valley. \nThe workshop will be led by the internationally acclaimed Center for Mind-Body Medicine\, with Founder and Executive Director James S. Gordon\, MD\, psychiatrist and world leader in healing population-wide psychological trauma. Dr. Gordon’s model translates easily across cultures and has been warmly received by countries devastated by war—and in U.S. communities facing climate-related disasters\, school shootings\, intergenerational trauma\, and most recently those affected by wildfires in Sonoma\, Shasta\, Trinity and Butte counties. \nSpace is limited and registration is required\, so reserve your spot now! Spanish translation headsets available. \nFor more information please contact Debbie Alter-Starr\, Event Coordinator (707-480-7436). \nThe conversation will continue with a second community event with Dr. James S. Gordon! Join Dr. Gordon and the broader community later that evening for a discussion on his work and new book. Ticket sales will fund the Napa Valley Resilience Group’s work to bring CMBM’s model to our community. \nPurchase tickets for the Evening Program HERE
