SUMMARY:Get Out the Vote - Weekly Letter Writing Party
DESCRIPTION:Right now! Write now! \nGet out the vote with 350 Bay Area and Vote Forward \nThe most momentous general election of our lifetime is fast approaching. Voting has never been more vital. At stake: nothing less than our nation’s standing as a beacon of hope. \n350 Bay Area\, along with like-minded organizations throughout the US\, is partnering with Vote Forward to get out the vote through the BIG SEND\, a letter-writing campaign that’s engaging\, effective and easily accomplished. From coast-to-coast\, people are writing 10 MILLION letters of encouragement to fellow voters in key states reminding them to get to the polls or mail in their ballots for the November 3 election. We’re prepping letters NOW so we’re ready for the BIG SEND on October 27. \nWe aim for an extraordinary voter turnout this fall. Vote Forward’s campaign focuses on voters in 12 swing states who are less than 50% likely to vote. Personalized letters work and are 3-4 times more effective than postcards. Vote Forward’s proven approach increases the likelihood that recipients of our letters will vote in this fall’s election. \nHOW TO PARTICIPATE.\nWe’re hosting letter writing house parties online every Wednesday evening\, 7-8 pm PDT\, and Sunday afternoon\, 4-5 pm PDT\, from now through October 25. Our goal: 35000 letters written and sent from 350 Bay Area members\, friends and associates. \n\n\nREGISTER TO ATTEND A HOUSE PART(IES) ON EVENTBRITE HERE: HTTPS://WWW.EVENTBRITE.COM/E/GET-OUT-THE-VOTE-WEEKLY-LETTER-WRITING-PARTY-WITH-350-BAY-AREA-TICKETS-113706743932\n\n\nAND SIGN UP FOR YOUR VERY OWN  VOTE FORWARD ACCOUNT BEFORE JOINING YOUR SELECTED SESSION.\n\n\nThe issues we face as the election approaches are unprecedented and interconnected: \n\nOur unrealized dream of equality as structural racism remains rampant and justice is thwarted.\nOur environment – the air we breathe\, the crops we grow\, the food we eat\, the oceans we treasure\, future generations – all at stake.\nOur health and well-being\, including the safety of all who now suffer because of COVID-19\, endangered.\nOur economic uncertainty – a stark reality.\n\nYet hope remains and solutions are at hand when we make our voices heard through the ballot box. \nHelp us help others cast their votes in November. Right now! Write now! \nSo get involved! \n

SUMMARY:Climate Change\, Our Faith Values\, and 2020: A Conversation Between Dr. Katharine Hayhoe and Rev. Susan Hendershot
DESCRIPTION:Hotter temperatures\, rising seas\, and extreme weather events are a few of the climate impacts we can expect to worsen in years to come. At its core\, climate change is profoundly unjust. It exacerbates hunger\, poverty\, and even political instability\, disproportionately impacting the most vulnerable people of the world\, the very ones we Christians are called to love and care for. \nClimate scientist and evangelical\, Dr. Katharine Hayhoe\, will join Rev. Susan Hendershot to discuss the latest outlook on climate change\, and how to communicate the climate message effectively\, from a position of shared values. \nHayhoe is a climate scientist at Texas Tech\, where she co-directs the Climate Center. She is also an evangelical Christian and the wife of a pastor in Lubbock. She has been named to a number of lists including Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People\, Foreign Policy’s 100 Leading Thinkers\, FORTUNE magazine’s World’s Greatest Leaders\, and Christianity Today as one of their 50 Women to Watch. \nJoin the webinar and learn effective ways to talk to your faithful friends and colleagues about the importance of caring for Creation and voting our values. \nHosted by Interfaith Power & Light\, Catholic Climate Covenant\, and Young Evangelicals for Climate Action. \nTo learn more\, register here.

SUMMARY:Better Food\, Less Carbon in the New Digital Economy
DESCRIPTION:Smart systems can link agricultural stakeholders with farmers\, ranchers\, and foresters. Traditional agriculture provides a meaningful opportunity to impact greenhouse gases and biodiversity. The agriculture ecosystem comprises land use\, crop production\, livestock and fisheries\, and the food supply chain. In this system lies meaningful\, measurable\, and sustainable regenerative applications that can greatly reduce the impact of agriculture on the planet. Farming data and smart technology solutions can combine to enable customers to make choices through market signals that can drive the industry to regenerative practices that both reduce atmospheric carbon\, increase resilience and biodiversity in our food systems\, and help improve farming profitability. Panelist from John Deere\, Land O’Lakes and the Farmers Business Network explore opportunities to lower carbon emissions\, improve biodiversity\, and increase the resilience of foods systems world-wide by digitally connecting it from soil to fork. \n\n\nRegistration and more event information can be found here.

SUMMARY:Polluting and Providing: The Dirty Energy Dilemma
DESCRIPTION:Register and learn more about this Climate One event here.  \nThe cost and health burdens of electricity production have long been higher for low-income communities of color than for wealthy white ones. But when it comes to public engagement and trust\, the oil and gas industry is often ahead of its clean energy competitors\, presenting a friendly face to the same areas it supplies with jobs\, tax dollars\, and cheap energy. Is the industry an example of community leadership\, manipulative greenwashing — or something in between? \nJoin us for a conversation with Derrick Hollie\, president of Reaching America; Jacqueline Patterson\, director of the NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice program; Ivan Penn\, alternative energy reporter with The New York Times; and Vien Truong\, director of climate justice for Tom Steyer PAC\, on hard truths about the energy industry next door. \nWe invite you to register for this free online event to receive an email with links to the livestream and a reminder to tune in. If you would like to help support production costs for this event\, you may make a donation when you register. There will be an opportunity to submit audience questions to panelists via our YouTube livestream chat box.

SUMMARY:Earth Day 50: What COVID-19 is Teaching Us About Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Join WCS and our speakers for the kick-off of our new webinar series on Wednesday\, April 22. We’ll come together virtually at 5pm Pacific. Find out how you can be a WCS member here. << \nAs Earth Day turns 50\, societies across the globe are responding to the acute danger of the novel coronavirus COVD-19. But what about the chronic condition of climate change? The resulting reduction in CO2 emissions from manufacturing and transportation has opened up a window to what a more sustainable world would look like if we took action to address climate change. When the danger of the current pandemic lifts\, will the world realize rallying to address climate change\, or will it return to business-as-usual? \nOur panel of experts will discuss how COVID-19 is impacting climate change and other social and economic systems the globe depends. Now more than ever\, there is a need to think bigger\, bolder. Billions of people making trillions of decisions got us to the situation we’re in today. Can people get us out of it\, too? \nWe’ll cover: \n\nWhat we can learn from COVID-19 response to better inform how we advocate for climate change\nHow to challenge the power of collective action for the climate crisis\nHow can we advance short-term tactics for resilience and mitigation\, but look at the larger context.\nHow to sustainability navigate the world of single-use protective equipment\n\nWe hope that this event will offer the space to reflect on your routine and nudge you to think bigger to take bolder climate action. \nWe’re also encouraging members and our WCS community to share photos and articles of how COVID-19 is impacting climate change.
