SUMMARY:Solar and Energy Storage Training
DESCRIPTION:For each Napa resident\, over 90% of your greenhouse gas emissions are related to your home and your vehicles.  Oddly\, you can use those two emitters to reverse the climate change trend. We are looking for volunteers who can help us transform residential homes with the power of solar. \nIf you want to do this for your own home\, business or want to be an agent of change\, we can help educate you and enable you to educate others.  We will also provide you with hands on tools so you can help others get this done. \nTopics we will cover: \n\nWhat is solar and energy storage?\nHow important is it to climate change?\nHow does it work?\nHow working together we can make more of an impact!\nStep by Step Actions to Make Solar/Storage Happen\n  Ideal opportunities\n  Intake Sheet\n  Data from PG&E\n  Questions and Answers\n  Engaging a Contractor\n  Customer follow up\n  Tracking Success & Failure\n\nContact davekearneybrown@yahoo.com for the Zoom link. \nWe have all the technology to integrate your home with solar\, a battery system and an electric vehicle to eliminate virtually all your emissions.  This is also now cost competitive.  What we lack is the political will and the regulatory framework\, but that WILL come in time. \nAlthough you can start riding a bike\, walking\, using public transportation and obtaining an electric vehicle (we know Tesla and Nissan have the software already installed to integrate with a home energy system) to enable the transportation side of this\, this training is focused on the solar and energy storage that will help revolutionize our production and use of energy. \nSolar and energy storage for a home or a business can do the following: \n\nEliminate emissions from a building\nReduce the need for electric grid upgrades\nEliminate the need for natural gas\nCreate savings for the home or business owner\nIf purchased\, create Federal tax avoidance for the owner\nProvide power when the grid goes down\nSell clean power back to the grid\nProvide power when it is needed most by dispatching from the batteries\n\nAs stated\, this is a huge contribution to the solution\, but it is also a large step with many details.  How does one get started?

SUMMARY:Accelerating Engineered Carbon Removal in California
DESCRIPTION:California has enacted ambitious climate goals\, including a statewide carbon neutrality target by 2045. While much of the required greenhouse gas reductions will come from clean technology and emission reduction programs\, meeting these targets will necessitate new methods of actively removing carbon from the atmosphere and capturing difficult-to-mitigate emissions\, including via technologies broadly known as engineered carbon removal. \nRegister and learn more here.

SUMMARY:Making 2021 the Year We Break Fossil Fuel Addiction
DESCRIPTION:The Covid-19 crisis collapsed demand for energy\, with oil prices falling to an astonishing -$37.63 per barrel in late April. But as the world looks toward recovery\, can this shock be seized to break the global addiction to fossil fuels\, or will the “new normal” end up looking much like the old one? How can we accelerate the rise in renewables to meet urgent global demand throughout the recovery? How will businesses with global operations adapt to support this transformation? And could a green recovery provide the necessary boost to strengthen commitment to the climate goals\, which the world so badly needs? \nSpeakers:  \n\nModerator: Ivan Penn\, Energy Correspondent\, The New York Times\nNigel Topping\, UK High-Level Climate Action Champion for COP26\nKingsmill Bond\, Energy Strategist\, Carbon Tracker\nMary Anne Hitt\, National Director of Campaigns\, Sierra Club\nSalvatore Bernabei\, C.E.O.\, Enel Green Power\nDavid Hardy\, C.E.O. of Offshore North America\, Orsted\nJessica O. SUMMARY:Cleanup in the Packaging Aisle Webinar: Why Whole Foods needs to put Planet Over Plastic
DESCRIPTION:Americans love the ocean: the sound of waves crashing and the smell of saltwater in the air — and\, sadly\, it’s also flooded with plastic. To stop plastic from entering our ocean\, we need supermarkets like Whole Foods to put ‘planet over plastic’ by eliminating all single-use plastic packaging. \nDuring our “Cleanup in the Packaging Aisle” webinar you’ll hear from Kelly McBee\, Waste Program Coordinator for As You Sow\, talk about the recent report that gave Whole Foods an F for failing to to adopt comprehensive policies to reduce its plastic footprint. \nThe Cofounder of BringIt\, Deb Singer\, will share about her experience working with Whole Foods and her role in the company’s reusable bag initiative. Finally\, Anna Farrell-Sherman\, Environment Texas Research & Policy Center Clean Water Associate will join us to talk about how plastic impacts Texas waterways–and why as a Lone Star-based brand\, Whole Foods needs to lead. \nAfter registering\, you’ll receive a link to the Zoom webinar. \nRegister and learn more about this event here.

SUMMARY:I Am Greta Screening
DESCRIPTION:The free screening of I am Greta will be at 3:15pm Pacific. \nThe webinar will follow immediately after the film at 5pm Pacific. \nI am Greta – The story of teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg is told through compelling\, never-before-seen footage in this intimate documentary from Swedish director Nathan Grossman. Starting with her one person school strike for climate action outside the Swedish Parliament\, Grossman follows Greta – a shy student with Asperger’s – in her rise to prominence and her galvanizing global impact as she sparks school strikes around the world. The film culminates with her extraordinary wind-powered voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to speak at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York City. \nIPL Youth Leaders Shout Out! Get inspired by up and coming IPL Youth Leaders as they tell their stories about how they got activated\, and what motivates and inspires them. We’ll hear about their work\, their vision for the future\, and how they are making it happen. \nAnd they’ll offer us a closing litany of the songs\, poems\, and artwork that keeps them pumped up to work for climate justice. \nYou may also access “I Am Greta” via Hulu. https://www.hulu.com/movie/i-am-greta-6eb88d15-22f0-4f7b-90aa-6933ddc2f90a \n  \n\nRegister and learn more here: https://interfaithpowerandlight.salsalabs.org/iamgretafilmscreeningandiplyouthleaderwebinar/index.html?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=0413c84c-821f-44f7-9d4c-241f278d3a61

SUMMARY:Get Out the Vote - Weekly Letter Writing Party
DESCRIPTION:Right now! Write now! \nGet out the vote with 350 Bay Area and Vote Forward \nThe most momentous general election of our lifetime is fast approaching. Voting has never been more vital. At stake: nothing less than our nation’s standing as a beacon of hope. \n350 Bay Area\, along with like-minded organizations throughout the US\, is partnering with Vote Forward to get out the vote through the BIG SEND\, a letter-writing campaign that’s engaging\, effective and easily accomplished. From coast-to-coast\, people are writing 10 MILLION letters of encouragement to fellow voters in key states reminding them to get to the polls or mail in their ballots for the November 3 election. We’re prepping letters NOW so we’re ready for the BIG SEND on October 27. \nWe aim for an extraordinary voter turnout this fall. Vote Forward’s campaign focuses on voters in 12 swing states who are less than 50% likely to vote. Personalized letters work and are 3-4 times more effective than postcards. Vote Forward’s proven approach increases the likelihood that recipients of our letters will vote in this fall’s election. \nHOW TO PARTICIPATE.\nWe’re hosting letter writing house parties online every Wednesday evening\, 7-8 pm PDT\, and Sunday afternoon\, 4-5 pm PDT\, from now through October 25. Our goal: 35000 letters written and sent from 350 Bay Area members\, friends and associates. \n\n\nREGISTER TO ATTEND A HOUSE PART(IES) ON EVENTBRITE HERE: HTTPS://WWW.EVENTBRITE.COM/E/GET-OUT-THE-VOTE-WEEKLY-LETTER-WRITING-PARTY-WITH-350-BAY-AREA-TICKETS-113706743932\n\n\nAND SIGN UP FOR YOUR VERY OWN  VOTE FORWARD ACCOUNT BEFORE JOINING YOUR SELECTED SESSION.\n\n\nThe issues we face as the election approaches are unprecedented and interconnected: \n\nOur unrealized dream of equality as structural racism remains rampant and justice is thwarted.\nOur environment – the air we breathe\, the crops we grow\, the food we eat\, the oceans we treasure\, future generations – all at stake.\nOur health and well-being\, including the safety of all who now suffer because of COVID-19\, endangered.\nOur economic uncertainty – a stark reality.\n\nYet hope remains and solutions are at hand when we make our voices heard through the ballot box. \nHelp us help others cast their votes in November. Right now! Write now! \nSo get involved! \n
